Alpha One 1 Gen Two 2 Heavy Duty Gimbal Bearing & Seal Sierra 18-21005 Gasket
This is for 1 Heavy Duty Gimbal bearing, Seal for bearing, which is temporarily a good used oem seal and Drive gasket as pictured! (May or may not have box due to packing abilities)
Alpha One Generation Two’s should all have these heavy duty bearings. But I have had several requests for the seal with this grease-able bearing so here it is.
Sierra part number 18-21005
For 1991 & up! In 1998 Mercury was court ordered to require the HD bearing but I believe they should have all had the HD bearing because of the torque in a gen 2.
I call this a universal kit because it will work on type 1, pre alpha, Alpha One Generation One & Alpha One Generation Two gimbals.
The box may or may not come with this sale but you do get the heavy duty bearing. You can trust my feed-back, you will get the HD bearing with this sale. I do have the standard bearings listed as well for $50.00 without the seal.
There are 2 slots on this bearing and when you install those slots face you! These 2 slots face you! These slots are from manufacturer and used to install inner bearing into outer race.  You cannot get a proper alignment installing the bearing backwards and you will cause damage. These bearings may feel notchy, sticky, etc. but that will go away after break-in time of about a half hour at slow speed.
The reason for no box is without the sierra box I can ship these in padded flat rate envelope without damaging the gasket. Square corners of box can tear gasket.
The bearing is what is for sale here and the gasket is free. I can not guarentee the gaskets because they are all thin material.
This is a universal heavy duty bearing and required on all Bravo, Alpha One Generation Two’s after 1998. This bearing will work on a Bravo but not the drive gasket. I will have these listed for Bravos with Bravo Drive gaskets for the same low price.
If you are blowing bearings on your older drives you may want to consider this bearing because it is heavier duty.
You really should read this whole ad because it has a lot of great information in it before you buy a gimbal bearing! Or any gimbal part if you are a newbie. If you’re not a newbie you may still be surprised.

These are all grease able bearings.
Please take note I am the only honest seller that places the word aftermarket in the title for your search results. I was able to find over 200 gimbal bearings listed and 99% are aftermarket and more expensive than mine because they miss-lead you into thinking they are OEM!
To replace your old bearing rent a slide hammer from a car shop, usually free when you return it. Put it in forward and remove the 6 nuts and put a 2×4 between ring and drive and bounce the drive on the 2×4. Use slide hammer to remove old bearing and the 2×4 to pound in new bearing. Don’t forget to line up grease hole.
Ok in 1998 Mercruiser realized that the standard bearing from 1963 and newer was not good enough for Alpha One Generation Two & Bravo’s on bigger boats or turning high Horse Power.
I am seeing so many gimbal bearings listed it drives me nuts as to which one you should buy! So buy mine and I will make sure you get the right bearing, cheaper than most! Here is why; I believe all my bearings are made in the USA or at lease assembled in the USA. It really does not matter if they are made in China or US, what matters is the quality of steel they are made of.
I have been rebuilding hundreds of gimbals a year for the last 10 years and I have built a reputation of HONESTY! So the simple truth is, good steel and good quality rubber for bellows is all that matters. It looks like 99% of bearing and bellows ad’s on eBay are misleading and use phrases like replaces OEM part number, replaces Quicksilver part number, replaces Mercury part number and the way they are listed they look like they should be OEM parts but they’re NOT!
Basically if you don’t see a package with the words Mercury or Quicksilver written on it then odds are it is aftermarket, because if it was OEM the seller would be sure to picture the words Mercury and Quicksilver! I have taken the time to ask these sellers and they say well it is hard to actually state the brand name or it is confusing or even that they are planning on correcting the advertisement! I can’t and won’t lie to you my new stock is all

but I didn’t sell bearings or bellows until 1 year ago. I took my time and tried all the different manufactures products and found most of them were lacking in one way or another. Myself personally I truly believe the products I am selling are as good as the OEM or I would not sell them.
I have been involved in the last 2 or 3 years with customers that are having problems with
NEW BOATS
and the problem is that it seems that with our economy the way it is Mercury/Mercruiser is dropping the quality of their OEM parts. I have proof and if you read on you will understand. I have 3 customers that bought new boats and less than 1 year the hydraulic rams deteriorated (pitted) The 1 year warrantee replaced them and guess what, a year later they bought rams again from me for their Alpha One Generation Two’s and I sold them older rams from the early 90’s and they are holding up fine. Do you want to know why Alpha One Generation Two and Bravo parts don’t last like the older type 1 and Alpha One Generation One’s? And why the used parts for Alpha One Generation Two & Bravo are so scarce. Mercury removed the grease fittings for all Alpha One Generation Two & Bravo’s for the steering shaft and hinge pins so that the bells, rings and housings all prematurely were out so these parts are in a higher demand so more scarce. Removal of all grease fitting (3) may have saved Mercury 1 or 2 bucks but cost each consumer hundreds if not thousands of dollars. But it did drastically increase sales for Mercury parts and they do last over a year so out of warranty. I do recommend that everyone that has an Alpha One Generation Two or Bravo install the 3 grease fittings if you plan on keeping the boat. I am also noticing gimbal housings, gimbal rings and bell housings needing to be replaced after only 2 or 3 years so it makes me wonder if Mercury is starting to use cheaper aftermarket parts on new boats or maybe I should say it might not be Mercury it may be boat manufactures are using aftermarket parts with cheaper cast aluminum. I do know the grease fitting removal was done by Mercury and there are also no fittings on the aftermarket parts either.
